Yes my friends, that is how much “real honey” is in the KFC Honey Sauce packets. It actually SAYS that on the packaging. Is that disturbing to anyone else? Their butter packets don’t say anything about how much “real butter” is in them… I’m afraid to find out.
Totally got hit on by the drive-thru guy though.
Disturbed.
That is very distrubing to me very much so that the honey packets at KFC are only 11% real honey. If they really want to offer honey why not give us the real stuff that is 100% and not 11% in the packets. That is why that I never ask for honey or butter at kfc when I get there biscuits because you never know if the butter is like the honey or not, so I usually use my own honey that 100% pure and natural honey and real butter…..Good to know eactly what kind of honey you are actually eating at KFC! Thanks for sharing!
While I generally prefer natural foods over artificially manufactured ones, I had to take a step back and evaluate this situation a little more objectively.
100% honey, while delicious, is 100% bee vomit. It is flower nectar that has been swallowed and regurgitated repeatedly by bees until it turns into honey.
KFC’s honey sauce, on the other hand, is made mostly from corn syrup. Corn syrup comes from corn. It has not been regurgitated by anything.
So speaking strictly to the “ick” factor, I would have to conclude that the Honey Sauce is preferable to actual honey.
That said, everyone knows that real honey tastes much, much better. I’m sure that KFC’s decision to offer “honey sauce” is entirely based on cost. Corn syrup is much cheaper than honey, and since they don’t charge for the packets of stuff that come with your biscuit, they opt for the cheaper sauce instead.
Incidentally, I was bothered when I recently discovered that the same is true of breakfast syrup, the kind you put on pancakes. Most “maple syrups” nowadays are just maple-flavored corn syrups. You have to hunt around (and pay more) if you want real maple syrup. But when you compare the taste between the two, it’s worth the hassle and the expense.
PS – Wasn’t there an urban legend a while back about KFC’s chicken being so genetically modified that they couldn’t even call it “chicken?” If even their chicken was rumored to be fake, why would we have ever thought their honey would be real?
Do you know that most honey on the shelf at the grocery store isn’t even 100% honey? Pretty disturbing huh?
